Jhalawar, Rajasthan: A devastating incident⁤ unfolded in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, when a portion ‍of a government school building collapsed,‍ injuring at least 20 children. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has sparked outrage among locals who allege administrative negligence adn a failure ⁣to address the dilapidated condition of the school.

Tragedy⁣ Strikes During school Hours

The collapse happened at the government primary school ‍in the Jhalawar district. While the exact⁣ cause is still under investigation, preliminary reports suggest structural weakness may have been a contributing ⁣factor. The injured⁣ children were immediately rushed to the local health center for treatment.

A doctor at the Jhalawar hospital confirmed that nine of the injured children are currently⁤ admitted to ⁢the Intensive Care Unit (ICU),indicating the severity of their injuries.

Witnesses Recount Horror

Locals have expressed deep concern,stating that they had‍ previously alerted⁢ the tehsildar and sub-divisional magistrate about the precarious condition of ⁢the school ‍building. ‍Though, their pleas for action reportedly went unheeded.”This happened due to negligence of the administration,” Balkishan, a local⁢ resident, told reporters.‍ he recounted the harrowing ‍experience of hearing a loud⁣ noise⁣ and witnessing a cloud of dust and⁢ debris engulfing a section of the school. The screams of children⁤ pierced through the chaos.

“I, along with others present there,⁢ immediately rushed to the building⁣ and started removing slabs and stones in order ⁤to rescue children. There was‍ chaos. Children ⁢were crying and everyone was making efforts⁢ to pull⁣ them out. Many of us rushed⁤ the injured students to the health centre,” Balkishan added.

Another ⁣local claimed that residents managed to rescue the children and transport them to the health centre ⁣in private vehicles before any‍ official help arrived.

Administration Responds Amidst Criticism

Jhalawar collector Ajay Singh, though, ⁣stated that the district administration had recently instructed⁤ the education department to provide information on any dilapidated school buildings.He noted that this particular school did not appear on the list submitted.”I will get it investigated‍ and ⁤action will be taken against whoever is found guilty,” Singh assured reporters.

The incident has ⁤raised serious questions about the maintenance of school infrastructure and the responsiveness of local authorities to safety concerns.‍ Investigations are ongoing to⁣ determine the precise cause of the collapse and to ‍hold responsible parties accountable.
