Jhalawar, Rajasthan – The devastating collapse of the Piplodi primary School building in Jhalawar district on Friday has plunged the community into profound grief, with heart-wrenching stories of loss emerging from the tragedy that claimed the lives of seven innocent children and left several others injured.
A Mother’s Unbearable Loss
Among the most poignant accounts is that of a mother inconsolably weeping for her 12-year-old daughter, Meena, and six-year-old son, Kanha. Her desperate wish was for God to have taken her instead, sparing her beloved children.”I’ve lost everything… I had only two children and both are gone. My home is empty… There’s no one left to play in the courtyard. I wish God had taken me instead and spared my children,” she shared with news agency PTI, her voice choked with sorrow. Kanha was the youngest victim of the catastrophic incident.
Questions Raised Over Teacher Conduct
Another grieving mother voiced her anguish and raised critical questions about the conduct of the teachers present at the school during the collapse. “The teachers went outside, leaving the children behind. What were they doing outside?” she questioned, her pain evident.
The seven young lives lost in the tragedy have been identified as Meena and her brother Kanha, along with Payal, Priyanka, and Kundan, all aged 12, eight-year-old Harish, and Kartik. The community united in sorrow on Saturday morning as the seven children were cremated. Five were laid to rest together on a single funeral pyre, while the other two were consigned to flames separately.
Earlier,heart-breaking scenes unfolded outside the mortuary of the SRG Hospital in Jhalawar as grieving mothers and family members collected the bodies of their children. Some clung tightly to the wrapped bodies, unable to let go, while others sat in stunned silence, grappling with the sudden and shattering reality of their loss.
