Raleigh Noise Rules: New Amplified Sound Laws Go Into Effect

Bars,‍ restaurants, and⁢ clubs⁢ with amplified entertainment.
To prohibit loud noises ⁤that could “annoy,disturb or frighten” residents and address adverse health effects linked to excessive noise (stress,sleep disturbances,high-blood pressure,hearing loss).
Distinguishes⁢ between dB(A) – lower levels (voices) and dB(C) – higher⁤ levels (bass).

  • Sun-Thurs 10am-10pm: 70 dB(A) / 75 dB(C)
  • Fri-Sat ​10am-11pm: 70 dB(A) / 75 dB(C)
  • Sun-Thurs 10pm onwards: 55 dB(A) / ‌60 dB(C)
  • Fri-Sat 11pm onwards: 55 dB(A) / 60 dB(C)


Between 2am and 10am,⁢ amplified sound should⁤ not be plainly audible beyond 25 feet.
Higher decibel limits than ‍the rest of​ the city.
Businesses outside Glenwood South can apply for permits to adjust decibel limits.
