Rallying Behind Success: District Leaders Meet with Shanghai Tennis Team’s Head Coach
Chinese Coach Wu Di Receives Visit from Pudong District Committee Secretary Jiang Dongdong
On September 2, Jiang Dongdong, Secretary of the Pudong District Committee, paid a visit to Wu Di, the renowned Chinese coach of Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, to express his condolences and discuss potential cooperation. Accompanying Jiang Dongdong were Deputy District Mayor Wang Jue, Deputy District Mayor, Party Secretary and Director of the District Public Security Bureau Zhang Jun, and Deputy Chairman of the District CPPCC and Director of the District Sports Bureau Gu Weiling.
As the head coach of the tennis team of Shanghai Competitive Sports Training Management Center, Wu Di has made significant contributions to the success of Chinese tennis players, including Paris Olympic silver medalist Zhang Zhizhen and Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen.
Jiang Dongdong had a cordial exchange with Wu Di at his home, expressing his heartfelt gratitude for the support and dedication of coaches like Wu Di. Jiang Dongdong praised the outstanding performance of Chinese tennis at the Paris Olympics, attributing the achievement to the hard work of coaches. He emphasized that the Pudong District Committee and District Government will study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech when he met with the Chinese sports delegation, focusing on integrating sports and education, strengthening sustainable training models, and cultivating exceptional sports talents and reserve sports forces for the country.

Jiang Dongdong also presented Wu Di with a letter of appointment as a senior consultant for the Pudong District tennis program. The Pudong District Sports School for Children launched its tennis program in 2014, which has since been deployed in many schools, with over 100 registered athletes providing talent for Shanghai’s second-tier tennis teams. The tennis program is working to address gaps in teacher shortages, strengthen its multi-faceted cooperative training model integrating sports, education, and society, and jointly cultivate high-level athletes through cooperative training and resource sharing.
