Patagonia International Marathon Unites Athletes and Travelers in Torres del Paine National Park
The 12th edition of the Patagonia International Marathon brought together representatives from 38 nations and 15 regions of Chile, all united by a shared dream of running in one of the most breathtaking locations on the planet.
The unpredictable weather, characteristic of the event, caught competitors off guard once again. Heavy rain in Puerto Natales gave way to intermittent sunshine that gradually cleared the sky in Torres del Paine.
Giannina Escanilla, a teacher from the O’Higgins region, was one of the standout performers of the day. She traveled to Magallanes to compete in the 10K and crossed the finish line in 55 minutes and 54 seconds, claiming the top spot in the women’s category.
“I didn’t expect to win the women’s 10K,” Escanilla said after receiving her medal. “I was just running for the love of the place and the landscapes. I gave it my all and pushed hard, especially on the challenging climb.”
Escanilla also expressed her pride and gratitude, saying, “The route was unforgettable. I’m proud of my achievements and have gained a deeper understanding of my capabilities. I thank my work for supporting me and my parents, John Escanilla and Ana Margarita Ortiz, who encouraged me to pursue sports.”
Interestingly, Escanilla’s father also participated in the 10K, finishing in 50 minutes and 13 seconds, and securing second place in his age category (50-59). “I didn’t know this place, but it’s truly spectacular,” he said. “My daughter encouraged me to sign up, and I’m thrilled to have experienced it with her.”
The Patagonia International Marathon offered runners a chance to take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the area’s main mountains, including Cerro Paine Grande, Cuernos del Paine, Monte Almirante Nieto, and Torres del Paine. It was an unforgettable experience for all participants.
Giannina Escanilla, accompanied by her father, claimed victory in the 10K race held in the stunning Torres del Paine National Park.
