Ranger Suárez delivered a dominant pitching performance for the Boston Red Sox, throwing eight scoreless innings against the Detroit Tigers in a 1-0 extra-inning victory at Fenway Park on April 17, 2026.

The left-handed pitcher allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out four batters over his eight-inning outing. Both hits came in the first inning, after which Suárez retired 18 of the next 19 batters he faced.

Suárez threw 93 pitches, 55 of which were strikes, maintaining a steady rhythm that he credited for his success. “I think the rhythm, the rhythm I’ve been having the last two starts has helped me to locate my pitches,” Suárez said through an interpreter after the game.

The performance marked Suárez’s best start of the 2026 season and lowered his ERA from 5.02 to 3.22. It also reduced his WHIP from 1.47 to 1.07, reflecting improved command and efficiency on the mound.

Suárez’s scoreless streak reached 14 consecutive innings following the outing, building on a six-inning scoreless start against the St. Louis Cardinals the previous weekend. Tigers starter Casey Mize also pitched effectively, throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings with three hits, a walk, and seven strikeouts in a low-scoring duel.

The Red Sox broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the 10th inning when pinch-hitter Masataka Yoshida hit a walk-off single to secure the 1-0 victory. It was Yoshida’s first walk-off hit as a member of the Boston Red Sox.
