In an exclusive interview airing today on “Very True,” acclaimed actor Raoul Bova has finally addressed the media firestorm surrounding the stolen audio scandal that erupted this past July. Bova spoke candidly about the ordeal, detailing the emotional toll and his unwavering commitment to justice.
The scandal, which involved private vocal messages between Bova and model Martina Ceretti being leaked and amplified through Fabrizio Corona’s podcast on july 21st, sent shockwaves through the Italian media. Bova revealed that his initial reaction was disbelief. “It was a very intense moment,” he explained. “At the beginning, I couldn’t even understand the entity and gravity of what was happening. I couldn’t accept it…and I refused to accept it.”
What followed was a barrage of threats, which Bova met with defiance. “I sent them back to the sender,” he stated firmly. “I clearly said that I would never be folded.I had nothing to hide, and I think nobody should bend to threats.”
Bova immediately reported the extortion attempt to the Postal Police, emphasizing his belief in the justice system. “Whoever does certain things is committing a crime,” he asserted. “And who tries to extort somthing from you frequently enough doesn’t stop there… and can turn into a nightmare.”
When asked how he managed to navigate such a challenging period, Bova emphasized the importance of self-respect. “You have to have the courage to walk around with your head held high,” he said. “The most crucial judge is the mirror. If you run away, it means that something is wrong. Instead, I continue to look at myself in the mirror with serenity, and those who know me know who I am. People on the street don’t judge me; they respect me.”
Bova acknowledged the inherent scrutiny that comes with being a public figure, but stressed that the scandal crossed a line. “I know that being a public person also involves satire, irony, some jokes. It’s part of the game. But what happened exceeded all limits. News was resumed from an offense, and that diffusion had to be stopped in the bud. There has been a real fury, a violence that touched me deeply.”
The actor also addressed the impact on his relationship with his former partner, Rocio Munoz Morales. “My couple relationship had been facing some difficulties for some time, which we tried to manage with confidentiality. But for me, it was never a problem talking about things with sincerity. I wasn’t losing anything becuase I was strong about my truth. I did not fear rivalries. I didn’t imagine, though, that the news would do so much clamor. For a moment, I asked myself: ‘Am I inside a movie, or is it reality?’ Because everything seemed absurd.”
Despite the pain and disruption, Bova is steadfast to turn the experience into something positive. “This type of fury, for me, is a form of violence,” he concluded. “But I’m trying to transform all this into force. And I hope that my experience also serves others, not to feel alone, to believe in justice.”
