Kodak Black, the Grammy-nominated rapper whose real name is Bill Kapri, has been arrested in Florida on drug trafficking charges, marking the latest legal challenge for the 28-year-old artist. According to verified arrest records, Black was booked into the Orange County Corrections Department on May 6, 2026, and faces a first-degree felony charge for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine, commonly known as MDMA.
The arrest comes as part of a coordinated surrender related to a case dating back to November 2025. According to legal sources, the case hinges on a search of a vehicle that contained a bottle of prescription cough syrup, which was allegedly fingerprinted and linked to Black. His attorney, Bradford Cohen, has strongly contested the charges, stating that the evidence is legally insufficient to support possession, let alone trafficking.
“This was a coordinated surrender on a case from Nov. Of 2025 where after an officer searched a vehicle that had one passenger in it, that was not Mr. Kapri, they found a bottle of prescription cough syrup,” Cohen said. “That bottle was fingerprinted and allegedly had Mr. Kapri’s fingerprint on it. This is a case [that] legally is not sufficient to charge possession of the item. Then instead of simple possession they doubled down and filed it as a trafficking charge.”
Cohen further emphasized that the charges lack a strong legal basis and that his client intends to fight them. He noted that this is part of a pattern of cases against Black that should not have been filed in the first place. “We look forward to yet another fruitful resolution to another case that should have never been filed,” Cohen added.
Legal History and Industry Context
Kodak Black’s legal troubles are not new. In December 2023, he was arrested for cocaine possession, and in 2022, he faced two separate arrests—one for trespassing and another for drug possession. His 2020 conviction for firearms possession was commuted by former President Donald Trump in January 2021. The rapper’s legal history has drawn significant attention, particularly as he continues to navigate both his music career and personal life.
The latest charges also come at a time when Kodak Black’s personal circle has faced its own legal issues. Less than a month ago, the mother of one of his children, Jammiah Broomfield, was arrested on charges including trafficking methamphetamine and resisting an officer without violence. Broomfield was reportedly picking up methamphetamine for her boyfriend at the time of her arrest. Kodak responded publicly, calling for her release.
What Comes Next
As of now, Kodak Black is being held without bond in the Orange County Jail. His legal team is preparing to challenge the charges, arguing that the evidence does not meet the legal threshold for trafficking. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for Black’s career and personal life, especially as he continues to build his presence in the music industry.

The entertainment world will be watching closely as this legal battle unfolds, given Kodak Black’s rising profile and the broader conversations about legal accountability and due process in high-profile cases.
