While Staphylococcus‍ aureus is a common bacterium found on⁣ human skin, certain strains can cause serious infections like pneumonia and blood⁤ poisoning. Multi-resistant ‍strains, known as MRSA, are a major concern in hospitals, claiming thousands of⁤ lives annually.

Fortunately,the staphylococcus aureus strain found in the aircraft ⁢rat was not one of these “superbugs” and remained susceptible to antibiotics like methicillin. what made this⁤ discovery particularly intriguing was ⁣that the strain contained human-specific ‍genes for immune defense and was almost identical⁣ to bacteria found in people⁤ in Europe and north America.
