A Lawyer’s Conviction
rutnah approaches his legal career with zeal.”It is essential to invest in what you like, because this happiness is naturally transmitted to the people you meet daily,” he says, emphasizing the importance of passion in one’s profession.
His path to success was built on perseverance, ambition, and determination. Growing up in Rivière-du-Rempart, Mauritius, Rutnah recalls the sacrifices his parents made to prioritize their children’s education. “My father worked as a bus receiver while my mother worked in the sugar cane fields… they have always given capital importance to our education,” he says.
To pursue his legal studies in England, Rutnah took on various jobs. ”I worked in fast food, as a maintenance agent in shopping centers, among others. My goal remained unshakable: become a lawyer.”
today, Rutnah is a member of the American bar Association, the European Criminal Bar Association, and the International Bar Association. He also holds an international Practical Diploma in International Human Rights Law. after practicing in England and the United States, Rutnah returned to Mauritius in 2010. “My country is deeply close to my heart. This is why… I chose to return to Mauritius to put my skills at the service of my homeland.”
rutnah’s commitment extends to offering pro bono services. “I practice this job with passion and a deep conviction. Besides, I do not ask for any remuneration from the needy people who request my help.” He acknowledges his financial success, stating, “My monthly income can exceed those of the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic, sometimes varying beyond 500,000 rupees.”
From politics to the Stage
A Public Servant
Rutnah’s desire to serve led him to politics. He served as a deputy for district n° 7 (Piton/Rivière-du-Rempart) from 2014 to 2019, holding the position of Chief Whip.
In 2024, he ran for office in district n° 5 (grapefruits/triolet) but was not elected. “In politics,there are invariably winners and losers. I accept this defeat serenely, but my mission does not stop there. I remain deeply engaged in social action and continue to provide my support.”
An Artist at Heart
If not for law and politics, Rutnah says he would have pursued the performing arts. “I have participated in many prestigious theatrical productions in England, interpreting roles in ‘Julius César’, ‘Macbeth’, among other works. I also played in a Mauritian film entitled ’The Last Note’.”
He sees a powerful connection between art and service. “It is indeed an exciting job that brings a lot of joy in the hearts of people… An actor has this unique power to transmit emotions to his audience, to convey crucial messages such as the fundamental values of life.”
