British singer-songwriter Raye has achieved her first number-one album with the release of This Music May Contain Hope. The album, which debuted at the top of the charts following its release on March 27, 2026, marks a significant milestone in the artist’s career, following her previous record My 21st Century Blues which debuted at number two in 2023.

Released independently through the label Human Re Sources, the album is a genre-blending project that incorporates elements of big band, jazz, R&B, soul, orchestral pop, and electropop. Raye wrote and co-produced the work alongside a team of collaborators including Tom Richards, Mike Sabath, Chris Hill, and Hans Zimmer.

Sonic Direction and Production

The production of This Music May Contain Hope focuses on a departure from modern pop trends toward a more traditional sound. Raye expressed a desire to capture a specific historical atmosphere in her music.

“There’s a thing I miss in in pop music today, which is that kind of Motown feeling, that classic feeling, that analogue feeling. So I was really excited to really, really experiment with that quite vividly.”

The album’s orchestral and diverse sound is supported by features from Hans Zimmer and soul legend Al Green. Raye also included performances from her sisters, Absolutely and Amma, on the record. The project explores themes centered on liberation, hope, and the complexities of human emotion over a total length of 73 minutes and 30 seconds.

Chart Performance and Lead Singles

The climb to the top of the album charts was preceded by the release of three singles. The lead single, Where Is My Husband! (also referred to as Where The Hell Is My Husband), was released on September 19, 2025. The track, which Raye first debuted at the Glastonbury festival in the summer of 2025, became her second number-one single on the UK charts and reached number six on the Billboard Global 200. As of April 2026, the single is approaching one billion streams on Spotify.

Two subsequent singles also performed well on the UK charts, both entering the top twenty:

  • Nightingale Lane, released on February 27, 2026.
  • Click Clack Symphony, released on March 20, 2026.

Current Industry Landscape

Raye’s ascent to number one occurs amidst a competitive chart period. In the current album rankings, Olivia Dean holds the number two position with The Art of Loving, followed by Ye (formerly Kanye West) at number three with his new release, Bully. The group BTS occupies number four with the album Arirang, while Melanie Martinez’s Hades sits at number five.

The singles chart shows a different distribution of success, with the Brit award-winning collaboration Rein Me In by Olivia Dean and Sam Fender holding the top spot. The rest of the top five includes:

  • Number two: Bella Kay with Iloveitiloveitiloveit.
  • Number three: Tame Impala with Dracula, marking the Australian band’s first entry into the top 10 singles chart.
  • Number four: Harry Styles with American Girls.
  • Number five: BTS with Swim.

Career Milestones

This chart success follows a period of record-breaking industry recognition for Raye. In 2024, she set a record for the most Brit Award nominations in a single year with seven. She subsequently won six of those awards, which also established a new record for the most wins in one year.
