motorola Razr Ultra 2025 AI Key Hampered by Limited Functionality
Updated June 07, 2025
The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 includes an AI key intended to provide fast access to the phone’s artificial intelligence features. However, its current implementation leaves much to be desired, falling short of its potential as a versatile action button.
While the concept of an AI Key is promising, especially as AI becomes more integrated into smartphones, Motorola’s Moto AI suite doesn’t quiet measure up to offerings from Google or Samsung. The AI Key’s limitations become apparent when compared to the more seamless experiences provided by competitors.
Moto AI, Motorola’s chatbot, aims to answer questions naturally. Though, its limited ability to interact with the phone’s functions diminishes its usefulness. Activating Moto AI via the AI Key requires an additional step: pressing the microphone button to initiate voice input. This contrasts with Google’s Gemini, which automatically begins listening upon activation.
The Razr Ultra 2025 allows users to customize the AI Key to launch Moto AI with a long press. However, this is the only option available for that gesture. The inability to assign other digital assistants or functions to the long press feels like a missed opportunity.
Even when Moto AI analyzes the screen’s content to offer suggestions, it still requires the user to manually activate the microphone. This contrasts with Gemini, which provides context-aware suggestions while concurrently allowing voice input. The added step makes Moto AI feel less accessible and highlights the need to expand the AI Key’s functionality beyond Motorola’s AI features.
The double-tap function of the AI key is similarly restricted, offering only “Catch Me Up” and “Remember This” options. with just three available functions, the AI Key feels underutilized, representing a potential waste of hardware.
What’s next
Motorola could enhance the AI Key by allowing users to assign a wider range of functions and digital assistants. Streamlining the Moto AI activation process to eliminate the extra microphone button press would also improve the user experience. Expanding the AI Key’s capabilities could transform it from an afterthought into a valuable asset for Razr Ultra 2025 users.
