RBI Reissues Sovereign Green Bonds for Sustainable Projects

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will reissue sovereign green bonds (SGrBs) totaling ₹30,000 crore through a government securities (G-Secs) auction on June 13, 2025. The offering includes ₹5,000 crore in 6.98% SGrBs maturing in 2054, the RBI announced Monday.
these sovereign green bonds are designed to finance environmentally sustainable projects, channeling funds into renewable energy, clean transportation, and sustainable water management. The initiative aims to foster climate-conscious growth and attract environmentally-focused investors.
In addition to the green bonds, the auction will feature the reissuance of ₹11,000 crore in 6.79% government securities maturing in 2031 and ₹14,000 crore in 7.09% securities maturing in 2074.
The auction will utilize a multiple price method via the RBI’s e-Kuber platform. Non-competitive bids are due between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., while competitive bids must be submitted between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on June 13.
Results will be announced the same day, with payments due from prosperous bidders on June 16, 2025. The government retains the option to accept an additional ₹2,000 crore against each security. “When Issued” trading will be permitted from June 10-13.
Primary Dealers can submit underwriting bids for the Additional Competitive Underwriting (ACU) portion between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on the auction day.
