Reaching for the Stars: China’s New Astronauts Prepare for Historic Manned Moon Landing Missions
China’s Fourth Batch of Astronauts Undergoes Training for Manned Moon Landing Missions
The press conference for the Shenzhou 19 manned mission was held on the morning of October 29 at the Dongfeng Auditorium of Dongfeng Space City (China Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center).
According to the spokesman, China’s fourth batch of astronauts was selected in May this year, consisting of 10 preliminary astronauts, including 8 space pilots and 2 payload experts. These astronauts joined the team in August and will undergo training in 8 categories and over 200 subjects. The training will focus on basic skills such as life, work, and health maintenance in weightlessness, as well as special skills like extravehicular activities, equipment maintenance and repair, and space science experiments.
The training also prepares astronauts for future manned lunar landing missions, where they will learn to control aircraft, drive a lunar rover, and conduct geological research. The astronauts will be trained to adapt to weight-bearing walking on the moon after experiencing weightless floating in space.
The two payload experts from Hong Kong and Macau, who joined the team on August 8, have been fully integrated into the team. They undergo targeted courses, including Mandarin, and have scientifically formulated recipes according to their dietary characteristics. Both experts are training with enthusiasm and are in good physical and mental condition.
