Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has stated that he is not concerned about his future at the club and is solely focused on securing seven wins in the remaining La Liga matches to close the gap with leaders Barcelona.
Arbeloa, who took over as head coach in January following the departure of Xabi Alonso, emphasized that decisions regarding his future are entirely in the hands of the club’s management. He reiterated his commitment to the team’s immediate goals, saying, “It’s not my decision to make. I’m not worried about my future at all. I’m worried about these seven matches and especially tomorrow’s.”
The Spaniard made these comments ahead of Real Madrid’s La Liga fixture against Alaves on Tuesday night, a match the club views as critical in their pursuit of a top-two finish. Currently, Real Madrid sit second in the La Liga table, nine points behind Barcelona, with only seven games remaining in the season.
Arbeloa framed the final stretch of the campaign as an opportunity to restore pride and demonstrate the club’s resilience, despite a season marked by early exits from the Copa del Rey and the Champions League quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Bayern Munich.
He added, “Two seasons without winning anything. Real Madrid are the club where things usually go right. There are times when things don’t, but the mentality of this club is always to look to the future. At Real Madrid, losing isn’t acceptable, but neither is winning, because we know the demands of this club and we always have to look to the future to win.”
Despite Arbeloa’s public stance, multiple reports indicate that Real Madrid’s hierarchy has already begun planning for a managerial change at the end of the season. Sources close to the club suggest that Arbeloa is unlikely to retain his position beyond the current campaign, with the board evaluating several high-profile candidates for the role.
The Athletic has reported that Real Madrid have identified a four-man shortlist to replace Arbeloa, although no clear frontrunner has emerged as yet. The club’s decision-making process is said to be ongoing, with internal discussions taking place regularly between the coach and sporting directors.
