Rebecca Romijn Avengers Doomsday Script Rumor Confirmed
Is Avengers: Doomsday Being Written on the Fly? Speculation Mounts amidst Delays and Industry Concerns
Recent comments from Rebecca Romijn, who is set to reprise her role as Mystique in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster Avengers: doomsday, have fueled speculation that the highly anticipated film is being written as it goes. This chatter, which first began circulating among film bloggers in April, gained further traction following Marvel’s proclamation in May that Doomsday‘s release date had been pushed back from May 1,2026,to December 18,2026.
Adding an ironic layer to the situation, james Gunn, the creative force behind DC’s cinematic universe and the writer-director of Superman, recently voiced concerns about the film industry’s health. In June, Gunn lamented an “epidemic of people making movies without a finished screenplay,” highlighting a situation within DC where he and co-chair Peter Safran halted production on an unnamed movie due to its underdeveloped script.
“Everybody wanted to make the movie,” Gunn told Rolling Stone. “It was greenlit, ready to go. The screenplay wasn’t ready. And I couldn’t do a movie where the screenplay’s not good.”
Romijn’s potential involvement in Doomsday sees her reuniting with several familiar faces from the X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart (professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), and james Marsden (Cyclops). Adding to the buzz, Alan Cumming, who portrayed Nightcrawler in 2003’s X2, has also seemingly offered a glimpse into the new film, having reportedly spoiled a scene during an interview in May, a full year before its release.
Further cementing the interconnectedness of Marvel’s multiverse, Robert Downey Jr.,who famously played Iron Man,is slated to portray Doctor Doom in both Doomsday and its 2027 follow-up,Avengers: Secret Wars. The recently released The Fantastic Four: First Steps also offered a tantalizing tease of the new film in its post-credits sequence, hinting at the grand narrative unfolding across these upcoming projects.
While the exact state of Doomsday‘s script remains unconfirmed, the confluence of Romijn’s remarks, the release date shift, and Gunn’s pointed commentary paints a picture that has many fans and industry observers wondering if this massive Marvel undertaking is indeed a work in progress.
