Rebel Wilson teases ‘Pitch Perfect’ Return, Praises derek Jacobi
Rebel Wilson has hinted at a potential fourth “Pitch Perfect” movie, noting that Universal is developing scripts amid strong fan interest. Wilson also reflected on working with acting luminaries such as Sir Derek Jacobi and Dame Judi Dench.
Wilson described her experience in a boot camp for an unnamed project, which involved dancing, conditioning, choreography, and recording 10-part harmonies. She fondly recalled the camaraderie, including wearing matching T-shirts with her colleagues.
Discussing her collaborations with Jacobi in “Juliet & Romeo” and the upcoming “Tinsel Town,” Wilson admired his effortless delivery and storytelling. “It was pretty cool to be in scenes with him,” Wilson said, noting his “fun grandpa vibe” despite the zero-degree temperatures in the medieval Italian church where they filmed.
She had similar praise for Dame Judi Dench, with whom she worked on “Cats.” Wilson said she initially aspired to be like Dench, admiring her humor and warmth. she also recounted a boot camp experience with Sir Ian McKellen for “Cats,” which involved crawling on the floor and pretending to lick each other.
Wilson recalled her appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” where she performed a rap and removed her high heels. She said norton’s skill made the experience feel like a casual chat. She humorously explained her discomfort with heels, likening her movement to “a shuffling wombat.”
the actress also spoke about winning $250,000 on the U.S.version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” for a school in Tanzania, which has supported 40 students through collage. “It’s surreal that going on a gameshow for half an hour resulted in putting 40 kids through college in Africa,” Wilson said.
She revealed that a severe bout of malaria during a gap year in Africa led to a hallucination of winning an Academy Award, which inspired her to pursue acting. Despite parental encouragement toward law school, she balanced legal studies with acting.
Regarding her body transformation, Wilson noted that it has led to diverse roles, including playing Kiefer Sutherland’s love interest in “Tinsel Town.” She mentioned initial concerns about being typecast after her “Fat Amy” role in “Pitch Perfect” but expressed excitement about being offered the lead in a horror movie.
She confirmed that Greggs, a bakery chain, sent a van to the “tinsel Town” set for Sutherland, a known fan. Wilson enjoyed a sausage roll and received a £50 VIP voucher from Greggs.
When asked about a potential “Pitch Perfect” reunion, Wilson expressed hope, saying, “The fanbase for Pitch Perfect is so awesome and keeps growing.”
wilson admitted she dislikes both Marmite and Vegemite, preferring Nutella on toast.
wilson starred in “The Almond and the Seahorse,” filmed in Liverpool and north Wales, which she found especially challenging due to its intense subject matter of traumatic brain injury.
“Juliet & Romeo” will screen in selected U.K. cinemas for one night only on June 11.
