Australian actress Rebel Wilson spontaneously collaborated with British indie rock band The Kooks during their performance at the Reading & Leeds Festivals on Friday, August 23, 2024.The unexpected pairing delivered a rendition of Coolio’s 1995 hit, Gangsta’s Paradise.
A Last-Minute Collaboration
Wilson, who hails from Australia, revealed the collaboration came together just 12 hours before the performance. She explained that The Kooks are immensely popular in her home country adn had expressed interest in working together. Rather than attempt to perform one of their original songs on short notice, Wilson proposed a cover of Gangsta’s Paradise, a suggestion the band enthusiastically embraced.
“the boys were really into it so we whipped up a rendition over the night,” Wilson reportedly said.she also described the experience as “so fun” and praised the band as “great fellas.”
The Kooks shared a video of the performance on their official Instagram account on Friday,praising Wilson as “incomparable” and calling the collaboration “truly unforgettable.” The post thanked both Wilson (@rebelwilson) and the festival (@officialrandl).
