Australian actress Rebel Wilson spontaneously collaborated with British indie rock band The Kooks during their performance at the Reading & Leeds Festivals on Friday, August 23, 2024.The unexpected pairing delivered a rendition of Coolio’s 1995 hit, Gangsta’s Paradise.

A Last-Minute Collaboration

Wilson, who hails from Australia, revealed the collaboration came together just 12 hours before the performance. She explained that The Kooks are immensely popular in her home country adn had expressed interest in working together. Rather than attempt to perform one of their original songs on short notice, Wilson proposed a cover of Gangsta’s Paradise, a suggestion the band enthusiastically embraced.

“the boys were really into it so we whipped up a rendition over the night,” Wilson reportedly said.she also described the experience as “so fun” and praised the band as “great fellas.”

Festival Performance and Social Media Buzz

The Kooks shared a video of the performance on their official Instagram account on Friday,praising Wilson as “incomparable” and calling the collaboration “truly unforgettable.” The post thanked both Wilson (@rebelwilson) and the festival (@officialrandl).

About the Kooks

Formed in Brighton, England, The Kooks are fronted by Luke Pritchard, with Hugh harris on guitar and Alexis Nunez on drums. The band rose to prominence in the mid-2000s with a string of prosperous albums and singles.

Their debut album,Inside In/Inside Out (2006),reached number two on the UK Albums Chart. Official Charts Company data confirms its peak position.The follow-up,Specific (2008),achieved number one in the UK,marking the band’s first chart-topping album. The Kooks have continued to release albums and tour internationally, maintaining a dedicated fanbase.

The band is known for their energetic live performances and catchy indie rock sound, with hits including Naive, She Moves In Her Own Way, and Junk Of the Heart (Happy).

Reading & Leeds Festival Lineup

The Kooks are scheduled to perform again at the Leeds Festival on Saturday, August 24, 2024. they will share the stage with artists including Chappell Roan, Hozier, and Rudimental.
