Record-Breaking Investment in Education: Gyeonggi Office of Education Unveils 23.54 Trillion Won Budget for Next Year

(Suwon = Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Jong-ho = The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education announced on the 3rd that it has allocated 23.54 trillion won in the ‘2025 Gyeonggi Provincial Education Expense Special Account Revenue and Expenditure Budget Plan’ and submitted it to the Provincial Council.

This is an increase of 996.6 billion won from this year’s main budget of 22.0574 trillion won.

The main sources of revenue are secured from 17.7887 trillion won in central government transfer revenue, 3.7959 trillion won in local government transfer revenue, and 443.6 billion won in own revenue and carryover.

Major expenditure projects include KRW 14.9947 trillion in support of school-centered educational administration, KRW 2.9285 trillion in support for safe schools, KRW 2.4942 trillion in expansion of public responsibility for education, and KRW 1.3948 trillion in creating a school culture of autonomy and responsibility. billion won, etc.

In particular, 272.2 billion won will be invested to improve schools’ wired and wireless networks to support digital-based teaching and learning ahead of the full introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbooks to schools in March next year.

In addition, a budget was allocated to increase the morale and work motivation of low-experience civil servants, including KRW 50.2 billion for the purchase and expansion of official residences to stabilize the housing of low-experience civil servants, and KRW 13.8 billion for annual additional support for health checkups and customized welfare expenses for low-experience civil servants.

KRW 237.3 billion for the operation of Neulbom School, KRW 6.3 billion for International Baccalaureate (IB) education, and KRW 6 billion for support for protecting teaching rights were also included in the budget.

Budget Officer Ahn Jun-sang said, “The budget plan was prepared with a focus on investing in core education projects for future education and strengthening the autonomy of school financial operations appropriate for the educational field.”

This budget plan will be deliberated at the regular meeting of the Provincial Council to be held starting on the 5th.
