‘Recruit 3’ creators discuss Show’s Success,Future Seasons
SEOUL (May 1,2025) — the creative forces behind the Genie TV original drama,’Recruit 3,’ recently shared insights into the show’s success and hinted at what’s to come in future seasons. In an interview conducted in Jongno-gu, Seoul, director Min Jin-ki and writer Yoon Ki-young reflected on the series, which concluded its third season on April 29.
‘recruit’ Series Overview
The ‘Recruit’ series depicts a realistic portrayal of military life, focusing on the interactions between diverse personalities during mandatory service.Season 3 marked a transition,with yoon Ki-young taking over writing duties from Jangpi Zhu,the original creator of the popular animated series on which the drama is based.

Creative Transition
Director Min Jin-ki acknowledged the importance of the change in writers. “This season was the first with Yoon Ki-young as the main writer, making it a crucial point for the series’ long-term viability.We were fortunate to receive a lot of love from viewers,” Min said.
Min explained that Jangpi Zhu’s increasing commitments to other projects led to the transition. “Jangpi Zhu was heavily involved with other work.Having collaborated with Yoon Ki-young on Season 2, the decision was made to entrust the writing to them.”
Yoon Ki-young admitted feeling pressure stepping into the role. “The original author’s absence and the high expectations for the season were a burden. However, I found the characters compelling, which made me excited about the project,” Yoon said.
Min Jin-ki noted that Jangpi Zhu has been watching the new season personally.

Ratings and Recognition
According to Nielsen Korea, the final episode of ‘recruit 3’ achieved a nationwide viewership rating of 3.3% and 3.6% in the Seoul metropolitan area, based on paid households.The series also ranked second in the TV integration category for the fourth week of April, as reported by Fundex.
Season 4 Plans
Due to the show’s continued success, Season 4 has been confirmed. Min Jin-ki and Yoon Ki-young shared some details about the upcoming season. Min hinted at a storyline involving the characters revisiting past events. “To move forward, we need fresh blood,” Min stated.
The final episode of ‘Recruit 3’ teased the arrival of a new recruit connected to Park min-seok (played by Kim Min-ho). Min Jin-ki elaborated, “This character will be linked to Min-seok and will touch upon past traumas. They will be a meaningful force, comparable to the impact of characters like World (Kim Dong-jun) and Munbit Nari (Kim Min-ho).”
Actress Han Ga-in is also slated to make a special appearance in Season 4, following a photo of her being used in ‘Recruit 3’ with her permission.
Min Jin-ki said, “Kim Dong-joon and Han Ga-in are close. I will suggest the god who visits Lee’s sister next season.”


Romance and Realism
Season 4 will also explore the romantic relationship of Park Min-ji (played by Lee Soo-ji), Park Min-seok’s sister. Min Jin-ki teased, “Park Min-ji should get married, but the other person may not be Lim Sung-min.”
Min added, “In Season 4, I want to talk about realistic executives. The achievements of this season are focusing on the cadres. The viewers are naturally sympathetic. In Season 4,the stories of the soldiers will be the main story,but I think I can deal with the family and love of the occupational soldiers.”
Hopes for the future
Min Jin-ki expressed a desire for the ‘Recruit’ series to continue indefinitely,contingent on viewer interest. “If the viewers want it, I want to continue the series, even if military conscription disappears in South Korea,” Min said. “Tho, if viewers find it ‘not fun’ or want us to ‘stop,’ we will.Fortunately, the actors are young and new actors.”
