Heavy Rainfall in Thailand: Meteorological Department​ Issues Warning Announcement Number 10

Heavy to very ​heavy rain in Thailand ​expected to impact 56 provinces until tomorrow. People advised to pay attention to the dangers of flash floods and strong winds in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand.

At 5:00 PM on September 16, 2024, the Meteorological Department issued a⁢ press release on the matter, warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand and strong winds in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast

From ‍September 16 to 17, 2024, heavy rainfall is expected in some places in Thailand, with very heavy rain in some areas in the northeastern,‌ central, eastern, and southwestern regions. ⁤People in the area are advised to pay attention to the⁢ dangers of ⁣heavy to very ‌heavy rain and accumulated rain, ‍which may cause flash floods and flash floods, especially in areas of mountain slopes, near watercourses, and marshy areas.

Cause of Heavy ⁢Rainfall

The monsoon trough has moved down to the lower north, upper central, and northeast regions, ⁣entering the low-pressure area along ​the coast of central Vietnam. Additionally, the southwest monsoon is quite⁤ strong, hitting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

  • North: Chiang Rai, Phayao, Lampang, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phichit, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun Provinces.
  • Northeast: Loei, Nong‌ Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum,⁤ Nakhon Ratchasima, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et,​ Amnat Charoen, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani.
  • Central Region: Nakhon Sawan, Chainat, Singburi, Ang Thong, Lopburi, Saraburi, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Provinces, including Bangkok and surrounding areas.
  • Eastern Region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong,⁤ Chanthaburi, and Trat Provinces.
  • South: ⁣ Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla,⁢ Yala, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun Provinces.

  • Central Region: Nakhon ‌Sawan, ⁣Uthai Thani, Chainat, Singburi, Ang Thong, Lopburi, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphanburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon⁢ Pathom, Samut Sakhon, ⁤and Samut Songkhram Provinces, including Bangkok and surrounding areas.
  • Eastern Region: Nakhon⁣ Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat Provinces.
  • South: ‌ Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Yala, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun Provinces.

Wind and Wave Forecast

Wind waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to be quite⁢ strong, ​with ⁢waves of 2-3 meters ‌high.⁣ In areas with⁤ thunderstorms, the waves will be more than 3 meters high. ​In the lower Gulf of Thailand, there will be waves of ‍about​ 2 meters high, with waves more than 2 ​meters high in areas with thunderstorms.

Boaters in the area are ‍advised to use caution and avoid sailing in areas prone to thunderstorms. Small⁢ boats in the Andaman Sea and the ⁢upper Gulf of Thailand should refrain from ‌leaving the coast until September 20, 2024.
