Red Cross & Red Crescent: Shaping the Future at the 2024 Global Gathering
The Thai Red Cross Society delegation, led by Mr. Techa Bunnag, Secretary General of the Thai Red Cross Society, participated in the 24th International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Delegation Council Meeting 2024 and the 34th International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies between October 22 – 31, 2024, at the Geneva International Conference, Geneva, Swiss Confederation. The delegation discussed and considered humanitarian policies such as the IFRC health policy and youth participation strategy. The meeting contained various decisions relating to the operations of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Additionally, the General Assembly meeting approved a change to the Constitution of the Red Cross by altering constitutional text and improving regulations regarding finance and officers.
IFRC has organized the Henry Davison Award, a prestigious award given to those who dedicate themselves to humanitarian work and improving the quality of life of vulnerable groups. Dr. Uraiwan Tinnan Ngwattana, Ophthalmologist, Office of Relief and Public Health Project Chairman Thai Red Cross Mobile Ophthalmology Clinic Medical Unit, received such an award. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has been recognized for her dedication to providing treatment and surgery for diverse eye diseases for the poor in remote areas and has been providing glasses to students in rural areas for 30 years. On this occasion, Dr. Apichat Chinwanno, Assistant General Secretary of the Thai Red Cross Society Department of Foreign Affairs, represented the organization to receive the award during the General Assembly meeting.
