Detroit, MI – The Detroit Red Wings pulled off a thrilling 6-5 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night, overcoming a two-goal deficit in a game that saw momentum swing back and forth throughout.
The sabres jumped out to an early 2-0 lead,but the Red Wings responded with a flurry of goals in the second period. Lucas Raymond tied the game at 3-3 early in the frame, before Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Jason Zucker put the Sabres back in front. Zucker’s second goal of the night gave Buffalo a 5-3 advantage heading into the final period.
Detroit refused to back down. Dylan Copp scored his second goal of the game early in the third, cutting the deficit to one. Moritz Seider then tied the game at 5-5 with just over four minutes remaining, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
With the game on the line, it was Copp who delivered the game-winner, finding the back of the net with just 1:37 left on the clock.
“I thought we could get some offense tonight,” said Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde. “Some of the things we’ve worked on and preached, but the guys had to go out and execute.We got some balanced scoring throughout.”
The Red Wings’ victory was a testament to their resilience and offensive firepower.
Lalonde made a key decision early in the game, pulling starting goaltender Ville Husso after the first period and replacing him with Magnus Hellberg.
“I thought it would be a little unfair on coss to do it with four minutes left,” Lalonde explained. “So I wanted to get to the end of the [first] period. It was a pretty easy decision.”
The Red Wings will look to build on this momentum as they continue their push for a playoff spot.
