Court documents have implicated Cincinnati Reds left-hander Wade Miley in connection with the 2019 overdose death of Los Angeles ‌Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs. The documents allege that Miley provided Skaggs with drugs.

According to a deposition, Skaggs told ​his former agent, Ryan Hamill, that he ⁢had been​ using pain pills containing oxycodone supplied by Miley. The deposition is part‍ of a wrongful death lawsuit filed‌ by skaggs’​ family⁤ against the ‌Angels.

Skaggs died in ‍a ‌Dallas-area hotel room hours before a scheduled series against the Texas Rangers. Eric Kay, a ‍former ⁤Angels publicist, was convicted ⁤in Texas⁤ of providing fentanyl-laced pills that contributed to Skaggs’ death and sentenced ‌to 22 ⁢years in prison.

Miley, 38, is not⁢ facing criminal charges. ⁣During‌ Kay’s sentencing, prosecutors⁣ played a recording in which Kay ⁤claimed Miley was‍ one of⁤ Skaggs’ drug ⁣suppliers.

The reds ⁢have not commented⁣ on the matter. Miley was unavailable for​ comment.

Matt Harvey, a retired MLB pitcher, testified during Kay’s‍ trial that he also provided drugs to Skaggs.⁢ Harvey was later⁤ suspended for violating MLB’s drug policy.He‍ and three other‍ players ⁣testified about receiving ‌pills from Skaggs and recreational drug use within the Angels⁤ institution.

Hamill stated that Skaggs implicated​ Miley in 2013 after Hamill expressed concerns to Skaggs’‍ parents about the pitcher’s⁤ behavior. Hamill and Skaggs’ ⁢parents⁣ confronted⁤ Skaggs, leading to ⁤his admission of drug use ⁢and⁢ the accusation against Miley.

Miley signed with the⁢ Reds‌ on June 4 after recovering from Tommy John‌ surgery in ‍may 2024. He had signed a minor league deal with ⁢Cincinnati​ in Febuary⁤ and exercised an opt-out clause before re-signing.
