Reds Rebound: Liverpool Storm Back into Champions League with Dominant Display
Liverpool Bounces Back with 3-1 Win Over AC Milan in Champions League
Liverpool returned to winning ways after suffering their first defeat of the English Premier League season against Nottingham Forest last Saturday. They beat the Italian giants 3-1 at the San Siro on Tuesday.
The Reds got off to a poor start in the clash between the two European heavyweights. In the third minute, Christian Pulisic gave Milan the lead after avoiding the opponent’s sloppy defense from a quick counter-attack.
Liverpool’s Comeback
However, the six-time champions turned the game around, dominating the rest of the match. In the 23rd minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free kick caught the defenders off guard, and Ibrahim Kona equalized with a header.
Virgil Van Dijk, the Liverpool captain, netted from a Kostas Simikas corner just before half-time, scoring the third goal in his 50th Champions League game.
Sealing the Win
Dominik Szoboszlai found the net with a shot from Cody Gakpo’s cross in the 67th minute as Milan lost possession, securing Liverpool’s 3-1 victory.
Coach’s Reaction
Liverpool coach Arne Slot saw victory in his first game in the Champions League, which coincided with his birthday. “A great way to celebrate my birthday,” said the former Fenerbahce coach. “We had more than 11 players, those who played did well. Maybe you wouldn’t say that five minutes after the game, but after we did well. Saturday’s loss was a shock. Then to go down 1-0 tonight, how we react, it’s amazing.”
