Reduced Speed Limits & Hefty Fines on Noida, Yamuna Expressways: Winter Safety Measures 2024

Reduced Speed Limits & Hefty Fines on Noida, Yamuna Expressways: Winter Safety Measures 2024

December 1, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

The speed limits on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway will change starting December 15, 2024. This decision aims to improve road safety during the winter months when visibility is low due to fog.

Why the Change?

These adjustments are necessary because winter conditions, like dense fog and cold temperatures, greatly increase the risk of accidents.

New Speed Limits

  • Noida-Greater Noida Expressway:

    • Light vehicles: reduced from 100 km/h to 75 km/h
    • Heavy vehicles: reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h
  • Yamuna Expressway:
    • Light vehicles: reduced from 100 km/h to 75 km/h
    • Heavy vehicles: reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h

These limits will apply from December 15, 2024, to February 15, 2025.

Enforcement Measures

  • New signs will be set up along both expressways to inform drivers of the updated limits.
  • Fog lights will be installed for better visibility.
  • The Noida Authority and traffic police will monitor compliance, including regular patrols.

Fines for Violators

Fines will be issued as follows:

  • Light vehicles: Rs 2,000
  • Heavy vehicles: Rs 4,000

These penalties will be enforced during the speed limit period.

Additional Safety Measures

  • Truck Driver Welfare: Authorities will provide tea to truck drivers traveling at night to help keep them alert.
  • Emergency Resources: Patrol vehicles, ambulances, cranes, and fire tenders will be available along the Yamuna Expressway for quick emergency response.

These measures come after a serious accident on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway on November 19, where a speeding bus collided with a stalled truck in heavy fog, injuring 17 people. This incident highlights the need for stricter safety protocols.
