Hong Kong and Macau School Football Match Registration Deadline Missed

Yan Chai Hospital Tung Chi Ying Memorial College missed the deadline to register for the school football match due to administrative negligence, resulting in the School Sports Association’s decision not to accept late registrations.

The school, which has dominated the Shatin and Sai Kung District School A Football Match for 17 consecutive years, hopes that the School Sports Association will handle the situation at its discretion.

The school association responded that its board of directors held a special meeting on Friday and invited Principal Tung Chi Ying and the head of the physical education department to attend. After discussion and reference to similar cases in the past, it was unanimously decided not to accept late registration applications.

The school association explained that it had notified all schools of the competition arrangements as early as July and had been in contact with each school. In response to the school’s claim that the head of the physical education department responsible for registration had resigned, and only he had the password to log in to the school association system to register.

The school association said that it had received Tung Chi Ying’s request on the 13th of last month, before the registration deadline, to reset the online system password, and immediately processed it on the same day and received an email confirmation from the school, believing that Tung Chi Ying could log in to the system to register.

He expressed regret that the school failed to register in time, causing students to miss the Group A/Senior Group competition. However, he stressed that as the organizer, it is necessary to take into account all member schools for comprehensive consideration and maintain the fairness of the system.

Some Legislative Council members agreed with the school association’s approach. New People’s Party Election Committee Sector Member Ho King-hong said: “It is a pity to hear about the incident, but in fact, the rules are the rules, and everyone has always had to abide by them. If it is to be handled on a case-by-case basis, in addition to the school association’s consent, other participating schools must also agree, otherwise it will be absolutely unfair to the schools that submitted the registration form on time.”

He also believed that the incident involved human negligence and the school must seriously review the incident.
