The history of this unusual trio of characters predates this film. These characters, created by artist Andrejs Prigicevs, first met in Reinis Kalnaellis’ debut short film “When Apples Roll,” released in 2009.
From Short Film to Feature Length
The full-length film was initially intended to be called “Apple Roll’s lullaby,” bridging the gap to the short film. The characters were conceived by artist Andrejs Prigicevs even before director Reinis Kalnaellis became involved. Vilnis Kalnaellis, head of film studio “Rija” and producer, recalls that his colleague Ilze Ruska introduced him to Prigicevs’ book illustrations.
