Trueba recalled Paredes’s impact on his early career. “In Ópera prima, Marisa was already a recognized and respected actress, while I was just starting out as a director. She had extensive experience in theater, television, and film. Sharing a scene with her was an amazing honor,” he reminisced.
“Every time we met afterward,she would fondly joke about our humble beginnings,saying we were a bunch of ‘crazy kids.’ But she always acknowledged the importance of that first film, recognizing how it helped launch many careers,” Trueba added.
Despite their shared history, Trueba and Paredes never collaborated on another project. “We crossed paths many times, especially during our time as presidents of the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences,” he explained. “But fate never brought us together on another film or theatrical production.”
Trueba’s last encounter with Paredes was at the funeral of actress Concha Velasco just a year ago. “I never imagined that this would be our final goodbye,” he said, his voice filled with sadness. “We have lost a truly great person and an extraordinary actress.”
