Renault Electric Twingo Named Among Best EVs Under 20,000 Euros
The Renault Twingo electric vehicle has emerged as a standout option in the sub-20,000-euro EV market, combining a nostalgic design with high efficiency and practical design choices, according to testing and reviews from DECO PROteste and 4gnews.pt.
Produced in Slovenia, the new all-electric city car carries a 30-year legacy from the original model and more than four million units sold. The vehicle starts at 19,490 euros including VAT for the Evolution trim level, while the higher-end Techno version begins at 21,090 euros, according to 4gnews.pt. That low entry price places it in direct competition with the Dacia Spring, though reviewers note the Twingo positions itself at a higher level of build quality.
Real-World Efficiency and Battery Performance
During a one-week real-world test spanning 375 kilometers across Lisbon traffic, national roads, and highways, 4gnews.pt recorded an average energy consumption of 10.4 kWh per 100 kilometers without utilizing eco-driving modes. The vehicle is equipped with a 27.5 kWh LFP battery pack and an official WLTP range of up to 263 kilometers.
In a stress test where the battery started at 100% charge and was driven down to 16%, the vehicle covered exactly 207 kilometers. That route included driving on national roads at 90 km/h, urban commuting in Lisbon, and a shorter highway segment at 100 to 110 km/h. Reviewers noted that while the official range is attainable in pure city driving, the 27.5 kWh capacity serves as a limiting factor for weekend trips, suggesting that a larger battery option similar to the 40 kWh pack found in the entry-level Renault 5 would improve touring capability.
Charging Options and Powertrain Specifications
The electric Twingo features a motorization output of 60 kW, delivering 82 horsepower and 175 Nm of torque, according to 4gnews.pt data. Out of the box, the base Evolution model is limited to 6.6 kW AC charging, which requires more than four hours for a full recharge.
To achieve faster replenishment times, testing indicated that the optional Pack Advanced Charge, priced at 500 euros, is practically mandatory. That package adds 50 kW DC rapid charging and 11 kW AC charging capabilities, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes at a fast-charging station.
Interior Space and Modular Design
Measuring 3,79 meters long, the vehicle manages interior volume through independent rear seats that slide up to 17 centimeters. This mechanism allows the standard 260-liter boot capacity to expand dynamically to 360 liters. Additionally, the front passenger seat features a fully fold-flat backrest to accommodate long and bulky objects, providing modularity that stands out in the A-segment electric category.
