Rental Car Owner Killed in Rest Area Shootout After Tracking Stolen Vehicle
Tangerang, Indonesia – A deadly shootout at a rest area on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road has left a rental car owner dead and sparked a police inquiry.Ilyas Abdurrahman, owner of Makmur Jaya rental car company, was fatally shot on Thursday, January 2nd, while attempting to recover a stolen vehicle.
Abdurrahman, along with his son Agam Muhammad Nasrudin and a team, were tracking a Honda brio that had been rented on December 31st but was suspected of being in the possession of the thief.
“The renter, who we later learned called himself Ajat, had removed two out of three GPS trackers from the car,” Agam explained. “We were able to locate the vehicle through the remaining GPS signal and began pursuing it.”
The chase led them to a junction in Saketi, where the suspect, who was driving the stolen Brio, allegedly brandished a firearm and claimed to be a member of the Indonesian Air Force.
“He shouted, ‘Who are you? I’m from the Indonesian Air Force, be careful!’ while pointing the gun at us,” Agam recounted.
The situation escalated further when a black Daihatsu Sigra rammed into the Makmur Jaya team’s vehicles. Both the Brio and the Sigra then fled the scene.
Undeterred, Ilyas and his team continued the pursuit, eventually reaching the Balaraja rest area. There, the brio stopped in front of a minimarket, and Ilyas attempted to confront the suspect.
“Gunshots rang out, about four or five times,” agam said.”I took cover, and when I returned,I found my father had been shot.”
Ilyas suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and hand.Despite being rushed to RSUD Balaraja, he succumbed to his injuries. Another member of the rental car team also sustained serious gunshot wounds.
Police are currently investigating the incident, working to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the shooting.

Maya: did you hear about that awful shooting at the balaraja Rest Area? It’s all over the news.
Ravi: No, what happened? That’s terrible!
Maya: Apparently, a rental car owner was killed. Some guy rented a car, then turned out to be a thief. The owner tracked him down, but things got realy violent.
Ravi: Wow, that’s intense. How did it escalate so quickly?
Maya: Well, according to the reports, the car had GPS trackers, and the owner, this guy named Ilyas, was able to follow it. He went with his son and a team to confront the thief.
Ravi: I bet the thief panicked when he realized he was caught.
Maya: Definitely.
He even tried to scare them off by saying he was in the Air Force. Then, another car rammed into the rental car team! They kept chasing the thief, though, and finally caught up to him at the rest area.
Ravi: It sounds like a scene from a movie. what happened there?

Maya: Yeah,it’s a terrible tragedy. The police are investigating, trying to find the shooters and figure out what led to all this violence.
Ravi: I hope they catch them and bring them to justice. This is a reminder that things can escalate quickly, even over something like a stolen car.
