New Italian Appliance Bonus Offers Relief, But Act Fast
Rome, Italy – In a move aimed at both stimulating the economy and promoting energy efficiency, the Italian government is launching a new appliance bonus program. Minister Adolfo Urso of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (Mimit) has approved the implementation decree, paving the way for discounts of up to €200 on the purchase of select, energy-efficient appliances.
This one-off bonus, funded by the latest budget law, offers a 30% discount on the purchase price of eligible “large appliances,” with the discount capped at €100. Though, for applicants with an ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) of €25,000 or less, the maximum discount doubles to €200.What Appliances Qualify?
the bonus applies specifically to major household appliances manufactured in Europe, including:
Refrigerators
Dishwashers
Washing Machines
Ovens
Smaller appliances like hairdryers and blenders are not eligible.
How to Claim Your Discount
The process involves obtaining a voucher through a dedicated platform managed by Pagopa, the Italian digital payments platform. This platform is expected to be operational by early October. It may also be accessible through the “IO” app, which is used for interactions between citizens and public administration.
The platform will cross-reference databases to verify eligibility, including ISEE levels for those seeking the higher €200 discount. Once a voucher is obtained, customers can present it to participating retailers, who will apply the discount directly to the invoice. Retailers will then recover the discounted amount as a tax credit.
Significant Considerations
Limited Time: The bonus is available only until December 31st of this year.
Limited Funds: With a total budget of just €48 million, the program can only support approximately 480,000 purchases. Demand is expected to be high,so acting quickly is crucial.
* energy Efficiency: While the initial requirement for appliances to be at least energy class B has been removed, consumers must dispose of an older, less energy-efficient appliance when purchasing a new one with the bonus.
A Step in the Right Direction
This appliance bonus represents a welcome initiative to help Italian families upgrade to more energy-efficient appliances, reducing their environmental impact and perhaps lowering their energy bills. Though, the limited funding and short timeframe mean that eligible individuals should prepare to apply as soon as the Pagopa platform launches in early October.
