Search Efforts Launched Monday Night
A search and rescue operation was initiated at 10:00 PM on Monday, September 22, 2024, in Sandsfjorden, according to the South West Police District as reported by Haugesunds Avis. The search involves multiple boats and rescue helicopters conducting aerial searches.
The police were alerted by individuals who were scheduled to pick up the missing person in Sauda, according to a statement from the police to NTB.
Confirmation of Boat Departure
Operations manager John Ask confirmed to Haugesunds Avis that authorities are certain the individual was aboard a boat that departed from Stavanger.
Ask declined to disclose the missing person’s gender or age, citing the small size of the community and a desire for discretion.

Despite some rain and wind, wave conditions are not significant, and the search has not been scaled back due to weather, Ask stated to Haugesunds Avis. Several private boats are also assisting in the search alongside police vessels and the Sea Queen rescue vessel from the Southern Norway main rescue center (HRS).
