resident evil Movie Reboot - Facts:
Previous Films: The six Resident Evil films directed by Paul W.S. Anderson with Milla Jovovich grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
Recent Reboot Failure: Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) earned only $42 million worldwide.
New Director: Zach Cregger (director of Barbarian and Weapons) is directing a new Resident Evil movie. Sony Pictures won a bidding war for the project.
Cast: Austin Abrams (Euphoria, The Walking Dead, Weapons) is the only currently confirmed cast member. Story: The movie will be an original screenplay, not based on existing game storylines. Cregger is aiming for a story “obedient to the lore of the games” but distinct from existing narratives. He will not be using established Resident Evil heroes in leading roles (like Leon).
Tone: Cregger hasn’t seen the previous films and intends to recreate the tone of dread from the games, rather than emulate the previous movies. He believes fans of the games will be excited by the new approach.
Fresh Approach: Cregger aims for a “fresh and edgy and weird” feel, distinct from previous Resident evil* films.
