Resident Evil Sales Surge on PS5 and Steam Following New Film and Discounts

Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise surged across major modern titles in early 2026, driven by a combination of publisher discounts and the release of Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film adaptation. Data from Alinea Analytics shows that the sales momentum concentrated heavily on PlayStation 5 and Steam platforms, lifting player counts for recent remakes alongside the record-setting revenue of the latest franchise entry.

PlayStation 5 and Steam Sales Spike Following Film Release

Sales for Capcom’s modern survival horror catalog jumped on the PlayStation 5 following the simultaneous rollout of promotional discounts and Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil film. According to Alinea Analytics data cited by industry reporting, Resident Evil 2 Remake experienced a 64 percent increase in sales on the PlayStation 5, while Resident Evil 4 Remake climbed 54 percent on the console. Valve’s Steam platform mirrored the trend, registering an 11 percent sales boost for Resident Evil 2 Remake and a 14 percent increase for Resident Evil 4 Remake. Meanwhile, Resident Evil 3 Remake recorded a 25 percent jump in daily active player counts on the PlayStation 5.

Resident Evil Requiem Crosses Revenue Milestones

Beyond the catalog remakes, the franchise’s latest entry continues to dominate commercial metrics. Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics reported that Resident Evil Requiem surpassed $500M in revenue since its February 2026 release. According to Elliott, Requiem is outpacing every previous game in the Resident Evil franchise in revenue generation and is positioned to eventually surpass the lifetime performance of the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake. The platform breakdown shows the PlayStation 5 leading hardware sales for Requiem at 48.1 percent of its players, with Steam closely following at 43.4 percent. The title is also available on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo’s Switch 2 hardware.
