Vergara, whose 1980 film “Rocío” was among the first works censored in post-dictatorship Spain, left behind numerous sketches for films that never materialized.
The documentary premiered March 27 in Portugal.
The film aims to continue the projects envisioned by Vergara, who lived in exile in Portugal from 1971 until his death.
According to the film’s directors, Vergara’s “Rocío,” a documentary about a popular pilgrimage, exposed the relationships between religious, political, and economic powers in Andalusia.
The directors stated that the original version of “Rocío” remains prohibited in Spain.
