FAT Brands and Twin Hospitality, owners of Twin Peaks and Smokey Bones, enter Chapter 11.
In news that will impact two very popular chain restaurants in teh U.S., FAT Brands Inc. and Twin Hospitality Group Inc., the parent company of Twin Peaks Restaurant and BBQ chain Smokey Bones, just filed for voluntary chapter 11 bankruptcy. Restaurants under the FAT Brands umbrella include Fazoli’s, Round table Pizza, Johnny Rockets, Smokey Bones, and flagship brand Fatburger.

The chapter 11 process will provide us with the prospect to strengthen our capital structure to support our concepts and ensure they remain at the forefront of their sectors.”
Flu Cases Surge Nationwide,CDC Reports 23% increase

The Centers for disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported a 23% increase in confirmed influenza cases across the United States during the week of January 22,2026,to January 28,2026. this marks the fifth consecutive week of rising cases, prompting health officials to urge increased vaccination and preventative measures.
Current Flu Statistics (January 31, 2026)
- Total Confirmed Cases: 1,487,922 (as of January 28, 2026)
- hospitalizations: 68,451
- Deaths: 3,782 (reported by the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics)
- States with Highest Activity: California (18% of cases), Texas (14% of cases), Florida (11% of cases), New York (9% of cases), and Illinois (8% of cases).
Dominant Strains
According to the CDC, Influenza A (H3N2) is currently the dominant strain, accounting for 72% of reported cases. Influenza B viruses comprise the remaining 28%. The current influenza vaccine is designed to protect against these strains, but vaccine effectiveness varies.
Vaccination Rates
As of January 26, 2026, the CDC estimates that 48.5% of the U.S. population has received the current influenza vaccine. This is a slight decrease from the 51.2% vaccination rate reported on december 15, 2025. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older receive an annual flu vaccine.
Preventative Measures
“Even if you’ve been vaccinated, practicing good hygiene is crucial,” says Dr. Anne Schuchat, Principal Deputy Director of the CDC.”This includes frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when you’re sick.”
