Irish fashion retailer Born Clothing has announced the closure of all 15 of its stores across Ireland, resulting in the loss of over 100 jobs.
The company, which opened its first store in Newtownsmith, Galway in 2009, made the announcement via an Instagram post on Wednesday, stating that after 16 years in business, it was time to say goodbye.
Born Clothing expressed gratitude to its customers and staff, thanking them for their support over the years and acknowledging the team as the “heart and soul” of the business.
The retailer confirmed that a closing-down sale will begin the following day in stores, offering up to 70% off all items, with purchases during the liquidation sale eligible for a 30-day refund or return policy, provided a valid reason and receipt are presented.
Gift vouchers will not be accepted, as noted on the company’s website, due to the ongoing liquidation process.
The stores affected are located in Galway, Dublin, Cork, Kildare, Laois, Tipperary, Westmeath, Leitrim, Mayo and Kerry.
At its peak, Born Clothing operated over 20 stores in Ireland, but currently employs 116 people. The High Court appointed provisional liquidators to the group on Tuesday, with business difficulties attributed to the pandemic, increases in the minimum wage, and high business rates.
The closure marks the end of a significant chapter in Irish retail, particularly known for stocking brands such as Vero Moda, Only, Vila, and its own Emily & Me label.
