Retailers Drop Conor McGregor’s Alcohol Brands After Assault Case Verdict
Major Retailers Stop Selling Conor McGregor’s Alcohol Products
SuperValu, Centra, Costcutter, and Carry Out will stop selling alcohol products linked to Conor McGregor. This decision follows a recent High Court ruling where a jury awarded €248,603 in damages to Nikita Hand, who claimed she was assaulted by McGregor in a Dublin hotel in December 2018. McGregor denied these allegations.
Musgraves, which operates SuperValu and Centra, confirmed that these products are no longer available in their stores. The Barry Group, managing Costcutter and Carry Out, announced they would remove Forged Irish Stout and Proper Twelve whiskey from their network, emphasizing their commitment to aligning with customer values.
In a separate development, IO Interactive, the creator of the ‘Hitman’ video game series, stated it would stop its collaboration with McGregor due to the court ruling and will begin to remove his content from their platforms.
McGregor is known for his alcoholic beverages, including Forged Irish Stout and Proper No Twelve whiskey, which he still promotes despite selling a majority stake in the latter in 2021. While some pubs offer his stout, it is not widely available. The Press Up Group, a major hospitality group in Ireland, noted they never stocked McGregor’s brands.
Following the court case, some retailers express no interest in selling McGregor’s products in the future. The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre reported a significant increase in calls to their helpline after the jury’s decision.
The Rape Crisis Network Ireland has called on retailers to consider their association with McGregor after the jury’s findings of sexual assault. They have not yet received responses from retailers regarding this matter.
