Rev Up Your Style: Tag Heuer Unleashes the Thrilling Monaco Chronograph in Racing Green

Rev Up Your Style: Tag Heuer Unleashes the Thrilling Monaco Chronograph in Racing Green

September 26, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

TAG Heuer has announced the launch of the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green, the second chapter in the story of the Racing Monaco, inheriting its motor racing heritage. This new model is part of the TAG Heuer Monaco collection, which celebrates racing cars and their iconic colors, and pays homage to the national colors of the United Kingdom.

Many will associate the TAG Heuer Monaco with one of the greatest actors of all time, Steve McQueen. In 1970, while filming Le Mans, the Hollywood superstar decided to wear the same racing suit and watch as professional driver and personal trainer Jo Siffert, in order to embody the role of a real racing driver. He quickly became a style icon in his own right, and would continue to wear the Monaco with pride ever since.

TAG Heuer Monaco and the Spirit of Motor Racing

Among all timekeepers, TAG Heuer has always had the closest relationship with racing, and the Monaco collection is the perfect embodiment of this ideal.

When it was introduced in 1969, the Monaco revolutionized the watch industry, being the first watch to feature the Caliber 11 automatic chronograph movement in a square, waterproof case. The name Monaco was chosen not only for its bold design, but also for the Principality of Monaco, best known for hosting the famous Formula 1 race. To this day, it has remained an integral part of TAG Heuer’s identity.

From this legendary collection of TAG Heuer, a new model has been released that inherits its heritage. The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green is the most distinctive feature of this watch. It is dressed in green, the national color of the United Kingdom.

With the iconic TAG Heuer Monaco, TAG Heuer has been weaving a continuous history linking itself to the world of motorsport for decades. From the early 20th century until the 1960s, racing cars were painted in the national colors of their countries, rather than the colors of their manufacturers or sponsors. Each country had its own color, such as the vibrant red of Italy, the white of Germany, which was originally used before being changed to silver, and the quintessential French blue that adorns the Monaco Chronograph Racing Blue that TAG Heuer introduced last year. It was the famous British racing green that inspired the second chapter of this collection, the latest addition: the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green.

Racing green has a long history as the colour most associated with British motorsport. It was famously used on the Napier 50, in which Selwyn Edge won the Gordon Bennett Cup in 1902, leading to Britain being chosen to host the event the following year in 1903. Continuing its use by modern British racing teams and major car manufacturers, the green has become an iconic colour in the world of motorsport and was the inspiration for this year’s Monaco.

Every element of the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green is inspired by historic British racing cars and their touches of white and yellow. Designed around this theme, the dial of the watch features a timeless and elegant sunburst satin finish in silver, evoking the engine-turned dashboards found in sports cars of the 1920s and 1930s.

The dial features eight polished silver applied hour indexes and 12 dot markers filled with light green Super-LumiNova®, allowing the time to be read at a glance.

Of particular note is the faceted baton-shaped marker at the 12 o’clock position. Its vibrant yellow stripe echoes the seconds hand of the watch and the yellow of beautiful British racing cars. The elegant green subdial is a vibrant yet sophisticated color that pays homage to the traditional racing green.

The case back is engraved with “One of 1000” to indicate that it is a limited edition, and the specially designed box is black with bright yellow accents.

The watch is powered by the Cal.11 automatic chronograph movement and is housed in a sandblasted grade 2 titanium case, making it robust, lightweight and sporty. The sapphire case back allows you to see the movement inside.

The perforated green strap, which matches the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green, is designed to reflect the aesthetics of a classic British gentleman. The included grade 2 titanium folding buckle also has a legacy feel, and the engraved Heuer logo is eye-catching.
