Revenge in the Workplace: Fired Employee Unleashes Fury on Former Colleague
Detroit Man Sets Fire to Former Co-Workers, Leaving Two Women in Critical Condition
Two women were taken to the hospital after a Detroit man set fire to two former co-workers. A witness helped to apprehend the suspect, according to Detroit police.
Detroit Police Chief James White called the incident “ridiculous.” The incident occurred around 6 a.m. Monday in the 1000 block of West Grand Boulevard as two women, in their 50s and 60s, were walking to work. According to Chief White, the suspect, a former employee who had recently been fired or suspended, committed the crime after confronting the women.
“He poured flammable material into the vehicle and set it on fire in and around the vehicle that they were in. The two women were inside, and they were taken to the hospital with burns and are in critical condition,” White said.
The suspect fled immediately after the incident, but a witness caught him and held him until police arrived.
“The suspect is believed to be an employee of the same company,” White said. “A witness was able to track the suspect down and detain him until we arrived. We were on scene within minutes and arrested him.”
He also pointed out that this incident is part of a larger problem.
“There are a lot of people who are not emotionally regulated,” White said. “There are situations where the ability to resolve conflict no longer exists. People are not able to resolve problems.”
