Melanie Scrofano on “Revival” and the Power of Sisterhood

 Updated June 18, 2025

Melanie Scrofano, known for ⁣her work on “Wynonna Earp,” stars‌ in ‍the new Syfy series “Revival,” a supernatural mystery centered around the bond between sisters. Scrofano discusses her personal connection⁢ to the themes of sisterhood and ‌female relationships⁢ explored in the show.

Growing up,⁣ Scrofano felt like an outsider, struggling to connect with‍ other girls.this sense of⁢ isolation,⁤ she says, ultimately became a gift, ⁣leading her to appreciate the strength and support found in female friendships later ‌in life. Her experience ‍on “Wynonna Earp,” where she experienced the special connection between sisters,⁢ solidified her desire to work‍ on ⁣projects that highlight these bonds.

In “Revival,” created by‍ Aaron B. Koontz and‌ Luke ⁢Boyce, Scrofano ⁤plays Dana Cypress, a single mother and police officer in a small ‌Wisconsin town where recently deceased⁤ people suddenly come back to life. The series,⁢ based on the ⁤comic ⁣book series by Tim‌ Seeley⁣ and ⁢Mike Norton, follows Dana as she investigates the phenomenon and navigates strained family⁤ relationships.

Scrofano describes Dana as a ‍relatable character,a woman simply trying to achieve her dreams. The “revivers,” she explains, are treated differently despite being the same people⁢ they were before⁤ their deaths, ⁢serving as ⁢a ⁣metaphor for societal treatment⁢ of those who are‌ different.

“It’s a small town,[and] once people have decided who you are, that’s who⁤ you are,” says scrofano, who also serves as an executive producer on the series. “[But] dana knows she can be more. … So she wants to get out of there and fulfill the promise she knows that she ⁢has in herself.”

“She [feels] like a real human being,” Scrofano says of Dana. ⁤“She’s simply a woman⁣ trying to exist and⁤ achieve her dreams in‌ a way that is feeling impractical, ‍and there’s nothing more human than that.”

“The rules [that apply to them] have changed, even though they have not,” Scrofano says.‍ “so as a metaphor for⁢ how‌ we treat people who are different than us, I was ⁣really compelled by that. How do you fight for‍ what’s right when you don’t fully understand what’s going on,⁣ but in your heart, you know we need‌ to stand by⁤ these people?”
