Samsung Electro-Mechanics has successfully developed the world’s first small all-solid battery for wearable devices, marking a significant breakthrough in the industry. After three years of research and development, the company has released a prototype and is conducting tests with customers.

The new battery boasts high stability, miniaturization, and free deformation characteristics, making it an ideal choice for wearable devices such as smartwatches and fitness trackers. With an energy density of 200Wh/L, the highest in the industry, this battery is expected to be a game-changer for the current lithium-ion batteries.

The battery is expected to be installed first in wearable devices such as Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch, and Galaxy Buds, and may be applied to other IT products such as smartphones in the future. Its low risk of explosion makes it suitable for wearable devices that fit close to the body.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ state-of-the-art MLCC (multilayer ceramic capacitor) manufacturing technology played a crucial role in the development of this all-solid battery. The company is also exploring supply opportunities to global IT companies, including Samsung Electronics.

The small all-solid-state battery is considered the first fruit of Samsung Electro-Mechanics President Jang Deok-hyun’s new business project. The company aims to achieve price competitiveness compared to lithium-ion batteries through continuous technology development and customer acquisition.
