Revolutionizing Cross-Chain Transactions: Circle Unveils Bridged USDC on Sony’s Innovative Sonyum Network

September 16, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Tech

Circle Partners with Sony to Introduce Bridged USDC on ⁤Sonium Network

Circle, the issuer of the second-largest dollar-pegged stablecoin USDC, ‌has announced a strategic partnership with Sony Block Solutions Labs, the developer of the Ethereum ‍layer 2 blockchain ecosystem Sonium.⁢ This collaboration will introduce the Bridged USDC standard to the ⁣Sonium network, utilizing⁣ Bridged USDC as the primary token for value exchange within‌ the ecosystem.

The⁣ Bridged USDC standard is a specification and process for deploying USDC in a bridged state on‌ EVM-compatible blockchains. It acts as a ⁢proxy for native USDC stored on Ethereum, supporting developers in building ⁣decentralized applications‍ (dApps) based on layer 2 blockchains like Sonium. This enables the use of digital dollar payments ‌for running applications on these‌ networks.

Sonum is an Ethereum layer 2 network being developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, the blockchain division of Sony Group, a major Japanese corporation. This project is also ‍a joint collaboration with StarTail Labs, the developer of the Japanese public chain ASTR.
