Revolutionizing Cross-Chain Transactions: Circle Unveils Bridged USDC on Sony’s Innovative Sonyum Network
Circle Partners with Sony to Introduce Bridged USDC on Sonium Network
Circle, the issuer of the second-largest dollar-pegged stablecoin USDC, has announced a strategic partnership with Sony Block Solutions Labs, the developer of the Ethereum layer 2 blockchain ecosystem Sonium. This collaboration will introduce the Bridged USDC standard to the Sonium network, utilizing Bridged USDC as the primary token for value exchange within the ecosystem.
The Bridged USDC standard is a specification and process for deploying USDC in a bridged state on EVM-compatible blockchains. It acts as a proxy for native USDC stored on Ethereum, supporting developers in building decentralized applications (dApps) based on layer 2 blockchains like Sonium. This enables the use of digital dollar payments for running applications on these networks.
Sonum is an Ethereum layer 2 network being developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, the blockchain division of Sony Group, a major Japanese corporation. This project is also a joint collaboration with StarTail Labs, the developer of the Japanese public chain ASTR.
