Hyundai Motor Group Takes Proactive Steps to Protect Consumers from Electric Vehicle Fires
Collaboration with the National Fire Agency for Electric Vehicle Fire Safety Measures
Hyundai Motor Group has announced its decision to establish a cooperative system with the National Fire Agency for electric vehicle fire safety measures.
A company official explained that the group has been seeking practical ways to establish more direct and effective fire safety measures in the wake of recent electric vehicle fire accidents.
Through in-depth discussions with the National Fire Agency, suggested by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the group agreed that support for advanced fire suppression equipment is a priority for a rapid response in the event of an electric vehicle fire.
Joint Development of Unmanned Firefighting Robot and Donation of EV-Drill Lance Fire Suppression Equipment
Hyundai Motor Group will jointly develop an unmanned firefighting robot for underground fire suppression with the National Fire Agency and donate 250 EV-Drill Lance fire suppression equipment to the National Fire Agency.
The unmanned firefighting robot will be deployed to each of the four special rescue teams in the Central 119 Rescue Headquarters by next year and will be used to put out underground fires in scenes where firefighters have difficulty entering.

The EV-Drill Lance is a direct-injection electric vehicle fire suppression device that uses hydraulic pressure to create a hole in the bottom of the battery pack and spray water inside the battery to cool it.
Last year, Hyundai Motor Group conducted a battery thermal runaway fire reproduction test using an actual electric vehicle in cooperation with two domestic fire departments and confirmed the fire suppression effect of the EV-Drill Lance.
Commitment to Electric Vehicle Fire Safety
A Hyundai Motor Group official stated that the group expects this collaboration to become a practical measure for electric vehicle fire safety and plans to continue cooperating with the National Fire Agency in various ways in the future, putting the safety of the people first.
