Revolutionizing Global Finance: 40+ Top Institutions Unite for Groundbreaking Cross-Border Payment Tokenization Research
Bank for International Settlements Agora Project: Exploring Cross-Border Payment Tokenization
Over 40 Financial Institutions Join Forces to Revolutionize Wholesale Global Payments
More than 40 global financial institutions are set to participate in the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Agora project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at exploring the tokenization of wholesale global payments. The project, which is currently in its design phase, seeks to investigate the integration of tokenized commercial bank deposits with tokenized wholesale central bank money on a programmable core financial platform.
The BIS Agora project is built on the concept of a unified ledger, which enables the creation of a seamless and efficient payment system. By leveraging tokenization, the project aims to enhance the speed, security, and transparency of cross-border payments, ultimately benefiting businesses and individuals worldwide.
The BIS conducted an open call for applications in May, attracting a diverse range of financial institutions from around the globe. The selected participants will work together to design and develop a cutting-edge payment system that harnesses the power of tokenization and distributed ledger technology.
The Agora project has the potential to transform the way we make cross-border payments, making them faster, cheaper, and more secure. As the project progresses, we can expect to see significant advancements in the field of tokenized payments, paving the way for a more efficient and interconnected global financial system.
