Revolutionizing Healthcare: Gil Hospital Hits Historic 2,000 Mark in Pioneering Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgeries

November 7, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Health

【Health News】 Gachon University Gil Hospital (Director Kim Woo-kyung) Robotic Surgery Center has achieved 2,000 cases of high-level robotic surgery.

Gil Hospital opened a robotic surgery center in 2019, introducing the latest 4th generation robotic surgery device. Afterwards, an additional robotic surgical device was introduced in November last year, further enhancing the capability for high-level precision surgery.

Da Vinci Xi, owned by Gil Hospital, improves precision with high-definition 3D images and a 10-fold enlarged field of view compared to existing laparoscopes, and is equipped with a variety of functions, including a robot arm that rotates freely.

Robotic surgery reduces wounds, pain, and bleeding through minimal skin incisions, and allows careful and precise surgery to be performed on areas that are difficult to reach with human hands. This is a surgery that has a positive effect on treatment outcomes by shortening the patient’s risk of complications and hospitalization period.

Gil Hospital performs the most robotic surgeries in urology and surgery, where precise surgery is essential due to the delicate body structure. In addition, robotic surgery is being performed in a wide range of fields, including gynecological diseases such as thyroid cancer, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer, colon diseases, and breast cancer.

At the Robotic Surgery Center, professional coordinators in each department provide customized treatment to patients throughout the entire process of diagnosis, hospitalization, surgery, recovery, and discharge.

Hospital Director Kim Woo-kyung said, “We will provide greater satisfaction to patients through active use of medical devices using cutting-edge technology, including an advanced robotic surgery system optimized for precise surgery.”
