Samsung Electronics Partners with IKEA to Expand Smart Home Ecosystem
Samsung Electronics has joined forces with IKEA, the world’s largest furniture company, to expand its smart home appliance ecosystem. This partnership aims to provide an integrated service for the Matter Bridge, an open smart home interconnection standard.
Matter is a home Internet of Things (IoT) communication standard that enables seamless communication between devices from different manufacturers. As a member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), Samsung Electronics is working to integrate different communication languages for each IoT manufacturer.
Samsung Electronics was the first in the platform industry to apply Matter 1.0, which was released in 2022. The company has also released smart TVs, smart monitors, and SmartThings Stations that support Matter controller functions. SmartThings Station is a smart home hub that can connect and control various products at once.
With the IKEA Matter Bridge, users can easily link and control IKEA devices without having to register them individually in SmartThings. Existing IKEA smart home settings can also be imported to SmartThings with just a few clicks. This feature is available not only with the Samsung SmartThings Station but also with home appliances that have a built-in SmartThings hub, such as Samsung Smart TV, Family Hub, Soundbar, and Music Frame.
According to Samsung Electronics, this partnership opens up new possibilities for expanding smart homes with IKEA products while taking advantage of the advanced features and integration of SmartThings. Users can connect devices to multiple ecosystems at the same time, maintaining their desired settings without being tied to a single system.
This collaboration is expected to enhance the smart home experience for users, providing a more seamless and integrated experience across different devices and ecosystems.
