Revolutionizing Joint Replacement: Inha University Hospital Launches Groundbreaking ‘Cubis-Joint’ Robot Surgery
Inha University Hospital Introduces Fully Automatic Artificial Joint Surgery Robot
Inha University Hospital has announced the introduction and full implementation of the fully automatic artificial joint surgery robot, CUVIS-joint. This cutting-edge technology is designed to improve the accuracy and stability of artificial joint surgeries, resulting in better patient outcomes.
The CUVIS-joint Robot: A Game-Changer in Artificial Joint Surgery
The CUVIS-joint robot was first introduced to Inha University Hospital in July, thanks to the efforts of Professor Ryu Dong-jin of the Department of Orthopedics. Professor Ryu applied for the Korea Robot Industry Advancement Institute’s ‘2024 Service Robot Demonstration Project Support Project’ to provide quality medical services to patients and was selected to use the robot at the hospital.
Successful Surgeries and Positive Results
The first surgery using the CUVIS-joint robot was performed in mid-July, and all patients who have undergone surgery are showing good results without any side effects. Each patient is undergoing a customized rehabilitation program, and the hospital is reporting positive outcomes.
How the CUVIS-joint Robot Works
The CUVIS-joint robot is an artificial joint surgery robot developed by Curexo, a medical robot company, using domestic technology. This robot is designed to improve the accuracy and precision of artificial joint surgeries, which can vary depending on the skill and experience of the surgeon. The robot precisely cuts the bone in a fully automatic manner, allowing the artificial joint to be inserted accurately.
Customized Surgical Plans and Minimized Damage
Based on 3D stereoscopic images before surgery, a customized surgical plan can be established and simulated, including the size of the artificial joint suitable for the patient, the insertion location, and the extent of the damaged bone cut. This approach minimizes damage to soft tissues such as tendons and muscles, resulting in less bleeding and pain, and thus faster patient recovery.
Benefits and Advantages
The CUVIS-joint robot has several benefits and advantages, including:
Minimized damage to soft tissues such as tendons and muscles
Less bleeding and pain
Faster patient recovery
Improved accuracy and precision of artificial joint surgeries
* Customized surgical plans based on 3D stereoscopic images
Expert Insights
Professor Ryu Dong-jin said, “Robot-assisted artificial joint surgery can significantly reduce complications by increasing surgical accuracy and stability from the patient’s perspective, and ultimately, we can expect the effect of improving mobility.” He added, “As we have a cutting-edge surgical environment, we will continue to strive to provide better, high-quality medical services to patients.”
