Revolutionizing the Future: How AI is Merging Culture and Technology into a Game-Changing Industry
AI Empowers “Culture + Technology” to Become a New Industry Track
Recently, the 2024 Internet Yuelu Summit was held in Changsha, Hunan, with the theme “AI Gathering Xiangjiang Digital Intelligence Driving the Future”. The event attracted many prominent figures in the digital economy, who believe that the integration of culture and technology, supported by AI, has become a new industry track with vast prospects.
In Changsha, a city known for its internet fame, new technologies like AI are transforming cultural communication, cultural tourism consumption, and content production. From historical attractions like Tianxin Pavilion to popular spots like the banks of the Xiangjiang River, and the Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Industry Park, AI is making a profound impact.
Zhou Fan, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of Hunan Xiangjiang New Area (Changsha Hi-tech Zone) and deputy secretary of the Yuelu District Committee, highlighted the Xiangjiang New Area’s seven major cultural and technological industries, including digital publishing, animation, and games. These industries have given rise to eight listed cultural enterprises and subsidiaries, with an annual revenue of over 30 billion yuan.
The integration of culture and technology has propelled many companies forward. BOE Yiyun Technology Co., Ltd., which focuses on creative display and exhibition digitization, has seen its annual sales increase 20 times since settling in Changsha in 2020. Its valuation has also increased 20 times.
Yao Xiangjun, chairman of BOE Yiyun Technology Co., Ltd., emphasized the importance of screens in cultural communication. He noted that traditional screens have limited market space, and future growth will come from new applications in the era of the Internet of Things, with great potential for the integration of culture and technology.
The 2024 Internet Yuelu Summit featured a theme forum on “A New Chapter in Cultural Intelligence and Technology”. Guests exchanged ideas on topics like the development of the audio and video industry, AIGC (generative artificial intelligence) in the cultural media industry, cultural globalization, and AI-powered innovative cultural and tourism scenarios.
The ”China Online Literature Yearbook (2023)” was released at the forum, showcasing the achievements of online literature in creative results, writer dynamics, popular works, reading trends, industry development, and laws and regulations. Online literature continues to drive the development of physical publishing, audio, animation, film, television, games, and derivative products.
Ouyang Youquan, director of the Institute of Online Literature at Central South University, believes that online literature is a typical example of the integration of technology and culture. Emerging technologies like images and videos are changing the literary and artistic creation ecosystem, giving rise to new productivity qualities.
Another scenario enabled by technology is cultural tourism. Li Changlin, head of Beijing Deck Smart Technology Co., Ltd., noted that the application of new technologies like big data and virtual reality has made digitalization key to innovative products and optimized experiences in cultural tourism projects. AI intelligent bodies will empower the cultural tourism consumption market, ushering in new growth points.
Digital technology has also promoted the globalization of culture. Wondershare Technology, a digital creative software company, has created a full-link digital content export product solution, with users in over 200 countries and regions worldwide.
Wu Taibing, chairman of Wondershare Technology, emphasized the company’s adoption of generative AI, using large audio and video models to enable content production, AI-powered video and image creative software, and AI-powered digital people for overseas marketing. This “two-way rush” of culture and technology will allow culture to reach a broader global stage.
